Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The senior accountant, under moderate supervision, performs finance and accounting functions for BHE Compression Services, a non-regulated BHE Pipeline Group company. When not performing primary function, the employee holding this position will provide accounting support for BHE Pipeline Group companies, economic evaluation of investments and accounting policy and internal controls.
Typical Duties
The primary responsibilities for this position include general ledger support through the completion of internal financial reports, journal entries and supporting documentation and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, preparation of supplemental schedules, reports, and recaps to support internal financial reports for company management. In addition, this position is responsible for financial planning forecasts and budgets, fixed asset accounting, and material /spare parts inventory controls. Job duties include: (60%)
• Contract Management and administration.
o Monitor contracts that are reaching term to determine proper accounting treatment for contract renewal or discontinuance of service.
o Track compressor units by status (i.e. held for use, under construction, in service … etc.):
? determine proper accounting applicable to unit status,
? reconcile unit status to applied accounting.
o Track compressor units by customer and location
• General accounting support
o Review compressor lease contracts to identify and resolve any finance and accounting concerns
o Research and propose solutions regarding accounting issues
o Develop policies and procedures
• Implement and maintain inventory controls for parts and compressor work in progress
• Fixed asset accounting
o Track original investment of each compressor/driver skid unit
o Record retirement of units
o Recognize gain or loss on disposal of units
o Prepare monthly depreciation calculation
o Maintain accumulated depreciation reserves
• Prepare monthly invoices
• Manage accounts receivable to ensure invoices are paid by due date
• Coordinate payment of accounts payable
• Cash management
• Preparation of financial and management reports
• Prepare account reconciliations
Secondary Job Duties and Responsibilities (30%)
• Provide accounting support for BHE Pipeline Group companies.
• Prepare supplemental schedules, reports and recaps to support internal and external financial reporting requirements for company management, BHE, institutional investors, the FERC and other governmental agencies, quarterly and annually.
Special projects and assignments include: (10%)
• Respond to internal and external auditor requests and provide detailed support
• Respond to assigned internal and external rate case data requests.
• Work on special projects as needed
• Ensure compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
• Ensure compliance with policy and procedures and other assigned control activities.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressively more rigorous work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree.)
Three to five years of related accounting experience using computerized accounting systems and emphasis on financial reporting. Position to be filled at level commensurate with knowledge and skills.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Research and analytical skills; experience with financial analysis methods and tools
Strong personal computer skills; proficiency in Excel, Access and Word; demonstrated ability to understand and utilize computer systems and applications as tools for analysis
Ability to maintain focus amid rapidly changing demands and priorities
Effective oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
