The Crane Operator position operates a crane to move heavy equipment, cargo, and materials. The position diagnoses problems and maintains a variety of bulk-handling equipment. The position works with project crews to load and unload heavy items at the job site. **Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time throughout the United States** Bring your fishing pole, bike, or hiking shoes for after-hours – great way to see the US! Could be part-time or full-time.
Essential Duties
Operate crane to lift, move, and position loads as needed on construction sites
Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload
Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed
Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, and make repairs as necessary
Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage
Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or out rigging under cranes
Load or unload bundles from trucks or move containers to storage bins, using moving equipment
Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of tasks, or special loading instructions
Manipulate or depress cane controls to regulate the speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions
Education and Experience
High school diploma
Preferred but not necessary:
3 - 5 years of experience within the construction industry
Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment machinery including skid loaders, forklifts, telehandlers, and rough terrain hydro cranes
Position Qualifications
Possess NCCCO or equivalent certification for rough terrain swing cab
Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English. Bilingual and female applicants are encouraged to apply.
Successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, have proof of insurance, and be able to successfully complete a background check, pre-employment drug & alcohol screening, and pass/maintain a Medical DOT Exam

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, push/pull, squat, crouch, and crawl. Employee must be able to enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground; be able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment, and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors.
There will be frequent exposure to moderate, and occasionally loud, noise levels. For safety reasons, the candidate must be able to communicate effectively in this moderate to loud environment.
Work is performed on construction sites that may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures and humidity. In addition, employees must be able to move around prospective or current project sites. This includes walking on uneven surfaces and walking long distances.
